Basketball

Still working on doing team photos and upping my off camera lighting skills. The main gym at North Mason has good light but very little room to work. It makes up for lack of room by having a balcony I can shoot from.

Sold one of my D7100, would like to get a second D500, but can't yet justify it.

Got Godox speedlights, no more messing with up to 12 AA batteries at a time.

Some front page photos

I've been getting on the front page a lot lately. For the polar plunge I got out my old work horse Nikon D90 again. My D90 has over 96,000 shutter actuations now and is still going strong. The D90 got splashed a little bit but no big deal. My 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 is the lens of choice for the job. The lens is not as sharp as I would like, but it gets the job done and I don't have to worry about breaking it too much at it's pricepoint.

Football Shelton at North Thurston

As the season progresses I find myself getting into a nice groove. Only one more home game left though. These pictures were taken at South Sound Stadium. SSS is dark stadium with flickering lights, it might be darker than Shelton but at least the light is uniform, no black holes other than in the end zones.

2017 WNPA Better Newspaper Contest

I just found out that I won four awards at the 2017 WNPA Better Newspaper Contest this weekend.

I won first place for Color Breaking news with one of my fire photos. I won second place for Black and White Photo Essay with my alpaca photos, and I got second place for Color Sports Action with one of my wrestling photos. We also won a shared second place award for Humor in Adverstising for my photo of the Shelton Varsity Bowlers.

These are state wide awards for photos I took in our community.
Our paper the Mason County Journal won first place for General Excellence again this year. That means the Mason County Journal is the best weekly newspaper in the state!
